May 2006 finally saw the introduction of the digital tachograph legislation into the UK and EU. The legislation has had a radical effect on the way drivers record information relating to driving, working and rest time. Previously drivers used a paper tachograph chart to record this information. With the digital tachograph equipment, information is digitally recorded on a smartcard commonly called a 'Driver Card'.
smartanalysis® helps you and your organisation in the transition to this new digital technology. smartanalysis® provides a fully managed, cost effective service to enable your organisation to comply with the Digital Tachograph legislation.
Click here for a full overview of how smartanalysis can be used for analysing your paper charts and your digital tacho data.
To comply with the legislation regarding the Digital Tachograph you need to capture and store data from the Drivers’ smartcard and from the Digital Tachograph Vehicle Unit (VU). We supply you, free of charge, with smartanalysis® 'digital downloader' software that needs to be installed on a PC or number of PC’s in each of your depots. We can also supply you with the card readers and VU download devices that are required to transfer data from the Driver smartcard and the VU to the PC.
To capture data from the VU you need to use a VU download device. This device plugs into the Vehicle Unit in the cab and allows you to copy the data you require from the cab VU onto the download device. The VU download device can then be plugged into the PC in the depot and using the smartanalysis® digital downloader software you can send the VU data that you have collected to smartanalysis®.
Capturing data from the Driver smartcard could not be easier. The Driver simply puts their smartcard into a smartcard reader that is plugged into the PC in the depot. The smartanalysis® digital downloader software automatically recognises that a smartcard has been inserted, reads all of the data from the card and sends the data to smartanalysis®. When this process is complete the Driver will see a message on the screen asking them to remove their smartcard.
